Oct. 13 Arrival at Camp 1, in Stern Pass. The view is impressive. The narrow passage between the two huge mountains, one in each side gives us an impression of entering the gates of Hades. The journey in the Provolgi went smothly and without any hazards. Oct. 14 Departure at 4 AM to explore the mountains on our left. The pass looks like a great canyon carved by the river. It seems like another world.

The massive mountais are quite beautiful but there's nothing there worthy to study. Just mountains and sterile valleys. We returned to Camp 1 and tomorrow we will explore the Provolgi valleys. |
